How can you reach your employees when you lack basic details about them?

Communication

Keeping your employees informed is the key to a happy and productive workforce. However, some organisations face a big problem – when you have a computer-based intranet, how do you reach employees who don’t have email?

Millions of UK workers don’t drive a desk – bus drivers, carers, and factory workers just to name a few. There’s also the growing population of contingency workers and the wider gig economy. So to stay connected to their workforce, employers are turning to tech-driven solutions.

Employee engagement platforms allow employees to access everything they need: anytime, anywhere. For instance, the Personal Group Hapi platform is available both on desktop and as a mobile app, which can be used for push notifications, targeted content, staff surveys and more, giving you a wealth of ways in which you can communicate with your workforce.

New challenges

Whether employees are working on-site or remotely as a result of COVID-19, companies need to develop better strategies for communicating with, and connecting and recognising their employees. One example is push notifications, which allow you to send critical communications to large groups of employees in real time e.g. “Site B closed from Thursday” or “Extra shifts available now.”

Keeping the team together is paramount in difficult times and your chosen platform should support this. For instance, having access to a mobile-enabled platform makes it simple and convenient for employees to recognise a colleague for their hard work, even if both are working remotely and/or on the go.

On the go

To stay relevant, employers’ comms need to make intelligent use of existing channels. People in the UK now check their smartphones, on average, every 12 minutes of the waking day (Source: Ofcom). It’s important to recognise that the way we access information is changing and relying on desktop intranet won’t cut it anymore.

Furthermore, employees are more likely to engage via their personal device and make the most of relevant information in the palm of their hands.

Access to wellbeing

Many employers now offer services to support mental, physical, financial and social wellbeing. However, employees may prefer to access these confidentially, via their own device, in the privacy of their home – or indeed anywhere they feel comfortable.

The flexibility of a mobile-enabled platform allows employees to gain the greatest benefit from these employee wellbeing services, and in turn, the best return on investment for the provider.

One stop shop

The aim of platforms like these is to connect and engage your employees through wellbeing, recognition, communications and in some instances benefits such as employee discounts for example. However, you can also take advantage of their simplicity and ease of use to integrate operational HR communications.

Instead of several different HR systems, all with their own logins and passwords, a good employee engagement platform should serve as a one stop shop. For example, Hapi can seamlessly link to other systems, including Learning Management Systems, your very own HR software, training systems and even rota management systems.

With improved employee communications and a route to ensuring employees feel valued with reward and recognition, you can build a culture that your employees want to be a part of.
