On Your Feet Britain: Top Tips and Activities for a More Active Workday

Posted on 26 April 2023

Sitting for extended periods of time is becoming an increasingly common habit in our modern-day lifestyle. Unfortunately, sitting for long periods has been linked to various health issues such as back pain, poor circulation, and even obesity.

On Your Feet Britain is a celebration of physical activity that encourages workers across Britain to unite and take part in a variety of simple activities to #SitLess and #MoveMore at work to help decrease the chances of developing health issues.

This year's event takes place on Thursday, 27th April, and it's the perfect opportunity to make a positive change to your work routine.

Research shows that regular movement throughout the day leads to

Better physical and mental health

Increased motivation

Improved concentration

Release of feel-good hormones

And many, many more wellbeing and performance benefits

Here are some top tips and activities to help you on your feet:

Walk instead of email: Begin by making small changes to your work routine. For instance, instead of sending an email, why not walk over to your colleague's desk to talk to them?

Park further away from the office

Eat lunch away from your desk

Create a fitness challenge: There's nothing more motivating than having a group of like-minded people to exercise with. You can create a fitness challenge at work to keep you motivated.

Track your progress: Tracking your progress is a great way to see how far you've come. It's also an excellent motivator to keep going. Try using a fitness tracker or even a simple pen and paper to keep track of your progress.

Activities to Get You Moving

Stand up meetings: Instead of sitting around a table, have a stand-up meeting. This will help keep the energy up and ensure everyone stays focused.

Walking meetings and lunches: Take yourself or a meeting outside and walk around the local area. This will get everyone moving, and is a great way to get some fresh air.

Take the stairs: Instead of taking the lift, take the stairs. This will help get your heart rate up and is an excellent way to incorporate exercise into your day.

On Your Feet Britain is an excellent opportunity to take a stand against sitting diseases. With a few small changes to your work routine, you can be on your way to a more active and healthy lifestyle.
